I’m not a shoe person. Wait. Let me rephrase that. I’m a shoe person, but shoes aren’t me people. Huh?

I love shoes. But I’m a barely functional klutz when I am in anything besides gym shoes. Heck, I’m barely functional when I’m in Gym Shoes. My husband on the other hand loves seeing me in high-heeled boots. Or is that loves seeing me out of boots? ;-)

Wait, that’s a post for a different kind of blog. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, shoes. Fun shoes in particular. Everyone likes fun shoes. Well, maybe not men, unless it’s the women they are with that are wearing the fun shoes. Wait. I strolled off-topic again, that’s for the other blog…

So we’ve established that I like fun shoes, but what I don’t like is shoe shopping. I know, I’m weird. I’m not girly like that; I just hate going into a shoe store and seeing all the same boring stuff over and over. So that’s why I love makemechic.com. They have tons and tons of fun shoes at reasonable prices that let me look at shoes all day long without ever having to venture into a shoe store. Side note, you have to check out the gladiator heels (cute!), the wedges (LOVE), and the privileged pumps (Egad, HOT!!). I love looking at the styles and high-heels and imagining what I would look like wearing them and then my husband comes along and says “those are fun, you would look good in them” and I know I should buy them. What can I say; my husband likes seeing me in high-heels…or is that out of high-heels…

From costume to classic and contemporary to antique, jewelry is a fun thing to shop for and a terrific way to glam your outfit up. Although it can be expensive — but of course, you’re worth it! — there are plenty of ways to find jewelry at a more affordable price. Here’s how it’s done:

Online craft and design stores

Many new designers are now selling their handmade jewelry from online shops. Browse these craft sites to find unique, individual pieces that aren’t available in high street stores. They won’t have a big brand or label attached to them, but this will have more of an impact on price than quality. Pieces sold in online craft stores range from bargain costume jewelry to more upmarket options made from precious metals.

Online auction sites

Whatever type of jewelry you’re trying to find, from bracelets and necklaces to rings and earrings, there’s always a chance you’ll find it on online auction sites. The jewelry sold on auction sites ranges from fashion jewelry to antique pieces, and there are thousands of items for sale in each category. It helps to know more or less what you’re looking for before you browse so that you can narrow down the search (and sneak in your bid quicker!).

Second-hand stores

One of the best ways to bag a jewelry bargain is to browse second-hand stores and flea markets. These are great places to discover one-of-a-kind pieces that have loads of character. You may also come across pieces made from precious metals and gem stones (which some hapless soul has donated thinking they’re worth nothing!). Look for the makers mark on the metal to be sure. The only way to confirm a gem stone’s authenticity is to have an experienced jeweler look at it.

End of season sales

Head to designer and high street stores for the end of season sales and you can find jewelry at a reduced price. In many cases, sale items are just as attractive as the new stuff; they’re just being sold cheaper to make way for the new season’s range. As well as heading to the stores themselves take a look online. There’s often more choice on the brand’s website and by browsing at the start of the sale you can get the best pieces.

Whatever your budget, by browsing online and opting for second hand you can afford new jewelry. If you have a crafty side, why not reinvent the pieces you already have? Buy a jewelry making kit and up-cycle the pieces you’re bored with.

20140222_173403Makes 12 servings

What You’ll Need:

  • 6 medium zucchini, diced in1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 bunch of cilantro, finely chopped
  • 4 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce
  • 2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 teaspoons basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons minced parsley
  • 3 cups of ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup of cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 cooked lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups grated mozzarella cheese

Directions:

Stir diced zucchini with 1 tablespoon canola oil and roast in oven, 375 degrees, till golden brown (about 30 – 40 minutes).  While baking, combine the tomato sauce, paste, garlic, sugar, and seasonings in saucepan.  Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for about 45 minutes, uncovered.  Stir in cooked zucchini and chopped cilantro.  In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta, cottage cheese, eggs, parmesan, and parsley.  Lightly grease or spray a 15 x 10 pyrex dish and spread 1 cup of the tomato sauce on the bottom of pan.  Layer with 4 cooked noodles, 2 cups ricotta mixture, and 1 cup of mozzarella.  Again layer 4 noodles, followed by 2 cups of tomato sauce, remaining ricotta mixture, and 1 cup mozzarella.  Top with remaining noodles, tomato sauce, and mozzarella.  Sprinkle with additional parmesan cheese if desired.  Cover and bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.  Uncover and bake an additional 25 minutes.  Allow to stand 10 minutes before cutting.

Prep Time:

This takes a little while to put together, but you can make the tomato sauce while the zucchini is roasting, cook noodles and prepare ricotta while the tomato sauce is simmering, and relax while it’s all in the oven cooking.  Total prep, before putting into the oven, is probably about 90 minutes.

Teaching Teenagers how to handle money can be a tricky business. You don’t want to just give them a credit card and let them run up huge bills. You don’t want them hitting your debit card and causing you to not pay a bill. Fortunately there is a better option, a pre-paid SpendSmart MasterCard.

Product Description-

NiteIze Gear Tie technology makes it easy for anyone to get organized, and stay organized.

Made of bendable wire interior with a durable, soft rubber exterior, our Gear Ties are the perfect solution for containing and organizing medium to long cords and cables, hair dryers, kitchen appliances, game console cords, and all those other electronic items you need each day. These small ties are colorful, reusable, water-proof, and have never ending uses.

My Thoughts-

Griffin is a video gaming kid and we have cords galore in our house! With PS4, PS3, XBOX360, The TV, iPad, Cell Phone, iPod, HDMI Cable… and on and on and on… you can see just how quickly cords in my sons room can get overwhelming and into a tangled mess.

Gear Ties allow us to keep everything organized and pulled back behind the TV without being tangled. It’s also a great tool for keeping all those the charging cables wound up when not in use.

Here is something else I used one for. I lost a bread tie and needed something to close the bread bag and keep the bread fresh. I used a small Gear Tie and it worked out great!

They come in different colors and different sizes. I personally like the variety bag. It comes with 8 different ties and is just $13.29. Check it out HERE.
